How To Create PDF Files

If you have been using a computer very long you are probably familiar with PDF files. You see them attached to emails you receive. You download them as product manuals from web sites. PDF files are a great way to send documents because anyone can download a PDF reader from Adobe for free. If you use MS Word, MS Publisher or other program to create your document, the end reader might not have that program. PDF or Portable Document Format provides a good way to publish documents that anyone can read. The question then is how do you make a PDF file?

There are many products available to create PDF files. The most popular, from Adobe, are very expensive. As you have likely guessed by now there is a cheaper alternative, even free. A company call Dane Prairie Systems LLC has a product called Win2PDF. Here is how to get it and use it...

Open Internet Explorer and go to http://win2pdf.com. Find the "Download Now" link on the left side and click it. Now click the "Download Now" link under "Win2PDF V3.3". When prompted, click the Run button. You will have to click Run once more and the installation will begin. Click Next each time you are prompted and agree to the license agreement. Once the installation is completed, you will have an additional printer. You can now open any document web site, etc and click File, then Print. Choose the Win2PDF printer to print to. The first time you do this, you will be prompted to agree that you are using the software for non-commercial use. Once you have done this, you will be prompted for a PDF file name and location to print to. Hit the Save button and your PDF file will be created.

Open your PDF file and read it. If you don't have the Adobe Reader, you can get it from Adobe.com. You will notice that Win2PDF adds a page to the end of your PDF file. This page indicates that you are using the free version and that it is for non-commercial use. If you would like to make PDF files without this message, then you can purchase Win2PDF at Win2PDF.com for $35.

Here is a nifty feature to try. Print multiple documents, pictures, etc to the same PDF file. You will have the option to replace the existing PDF file or put your new pages at the front of it or at the back of it.

Now when you send out those fancy invitations anyone can read them. I hope you enjoy Win2PDF. As always, feel free to email or call with questions.
